The 1998 Southwest Regional was the first competition of the 1998 FIRST Robotics Competition season. The regional took place at Space Center Houston from March 5th to 7th, 1998. Like other events of the time, matches were played back and forth on an "A" field and a "B" field to decrease match turnaround. Live video feed of matches was shown on televisions around the venue. Woodie Flowers was the master of ceremonies and introduced matches for the event and Dean Kamen was also in attendance.
