The event took place in the Manchester Memorial High School gym on February 13th and 14th, 1992. Then-President George Bush visited on Wednesday the 12th and endorsed the program and invited the winner to the White House. Two playing fields were set up in the gym, with umbilical tethers suspended from the ceiling. Drive teams controlled robots from behind their home bases, and controllers and tether connectors had color-coded strips of tape to keep track of which controller linked to which tether. Matches were timed on the gym scoreboard and a closed-circuit video feed showed matches on monitors around the room with superimposed timers and even on-robot video. Seeding rounds or "heats" took place to determine a seeding order before the double elimination tournament and best two out of three rounds. ==Seeding list== |25|| |8|| |28|| |27|| |19|| |18|| |20|| |4|| |3|| |9|| |6|| |23|| |14|| |12|| |11|| |22|| |13|| |15|| |7|| |24|| |16|| |5|| |10|| |17|| |21|| |26|| |2|| |1|| TeamListFooter In some matches, robots originally built for the 1991 test game of Maize Craze that looked like a pig and chicken were used. In some matches, one of these robots sat motionless in one corner of the field and was not plugged in to the control tethers. In other matches, these robots seemingly acted as surrogate robots for some teams. The conclusion of heat #19, for example, shows the chicken in team -16's position. ==Awards== Some awards this year were inset metal FIRST emblems in a wooden plaque. Larger trophies had a clear base with emblem inserts with a clear cylindrical pedestal filled with corn kernels with a crystal ball on top. Commemorative trophies included a wooden base and clear plastic tube filled with corn kernels spray painted gold with a tennis ball on top. The Chairman's award was the iconic handmade clock. Chairman's Award Winner Finalist Most Creative Design Best Offensive Round Best Defensive Maneuver Most Photogenic Best Sportsmanship Best Team Spirit Play of the Day The Ultimate Keeper TeamListFooter ==Playoff bracket== ==Gallery== <gallery caption="Additional photos on the FRC Archive" perrow=5 heights=200px widths=200px> File:45577 - 1992 1992cmp dean kamen frc-4 frc191 george hw bush robot team woodie flowers.jpg|President Bush at the February 12th reception File:1403 - 1992 1992cmp match robot.jpg|The stands and one of the fields during a match File:1466 - 1992 1992cmp.jpg|One of the monitors showing a live match feed File:1540 - 1992 1992cmp frc-108 frc-21 frc-3 frc111 match robot video.gif|Team 111's robot with a small camera attached with the on-robot view superimposed onto the monitor feed.
