The 1996 New England Tournament was the first official competition of the [[1996]] FIRST Robotics Competition season. The competition was held at [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_New_Hampshire_University Southern New Hampshire University] from March 28th to 30th, 1996. Two fields were set up and matches were played back and forth to speed up match turnaround time. Teams did not need to attend the regional to qualify for Nationals. Unlike the driver stations at the [[1996cmp|National competition]], the driver stations at the tournament were open shelf-like tables color coded to the team's positions. Woodie Flowers and Dean Kamen were both in attendance.
