The 1998 Southwest Regional was the first competition of the [[1998]] FIRST Robotics Competition season. The regional took place at [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Center_Houston Space Center Houston] from March 5th to 7th, 1998. Like other events of the time, matches were played back and forth on an "A" field and a "B" field to decrease match turnaround. Live video feed of matches was shown on televisions around the venue. [[Woodie Flowers]] was the master of ceremonies and introduced matches for the event and [[Dean Kamen]] was also in attendance.
