This page describes the rationale behind the FRC Archive's tagging system.

Teams

Imaged and media of robots, pits, matches, and other things pertaining to a particular team or teams are tagged in the FRC Archive with frc preceding their team number, i.e. frc1 or frc818.

Team numbers from 1997 can be searched for by putting 1997frc before the 1997 number as in 1997frc14. The negative numbers assigned to teams that had competed before but not in 1998 can be searched by including the negative sign like frc-53. A handful of additional oddball numbers are included for various reasons such as the teams who only competed in 1995 which were not assigned negative numbers and are thus referred to with 1995frc preceding their alphabetical position on the 1995 team list. Negative and 1997 team numbers associated with teams that later teams identify as related to are aliased to include the later team numbers in the archive, such as 1997frc118 and frc-114. The two Stanley-sponsored middle school and high school teams from New Britain, CT which later merged into team 155 are differentiated as 1996frc74 and 1996frc75, their alphabetical positions in 1996.

Years

Media that was taken in or is related to a particular year of the FIRST Robotics Competition or FIRST in general is tagged with the digits of the corresponding year. Pictures and videos taken in one year that features, for example, robots or awards from a past year should be tagged with both (or all) years, and videos that include footage of past years should also be tagged with all applicable years.

Events

Media from events, like match videos and pit pictures, are tagged with the year as well as the year-specific event code largely based on the Blue Alliance scheme, which is similar to the official frc-events pages but with some differences, particularly for older events (The Blue Alliance 1996nh is used instead of the frc-events 1996n1 style). Offseason events also generally follow the Blue Alliance or occasionally have one improvised such as swre for the Ford Sweet Repeat.
