Circa 1993-1994[1] FIRST operated a dial-up bulletin board system for important messages and communication. With the corporate sponsors as well as school labs of the era, dialing-in would have been more accessible than for the general public.

By September 1995 FIRST had an World Wide Web connection and website with e-mail system in place. Team numbers were faxed as well as e-mailed out that year. The original URL was http://usfirst.mv.com[2] but by later 1996 it was changed to http://usfirst.org/, with both URLs mirroring each other until the 2001 redesign.

The original site was hosted on a 40 MHz 386DX processor with 20[3] and later 32[4] MB of RAM. It was designed around the slow modem speeds of the time as well as text-only browsers like Lynx.

In 2001 the site was redesigned with a simple but effective table-based layout. In 2002 it was revamped again with a more colorful design.
